Speech and Language Therapy
The Speech and Language Therapy Department at BASR was established in 1993. Throughout the years, constant improvements and developments have been made to the department to make it what it is today. Currently, there are five speech therapists working at the department with children, adults and elderly inpatients and outpatients.
Our department has the capacity to deal with various cases as follows:
Stroke/ hemorrhage, Traumatic brain injuries, autoimmune diseases, Tumors, Neurodegenerative diseases, and Cerebral Palsy. Developmental language delay/ Specific language impairment, Misarticulation, Stuttering, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)/ ADD), Autism, Selective mutism, and Voice disorders. Our services are comprehensive, as they involve thorough assessment of the disorder, and early assessment and detection of disorders (speech, language, hearing, etc.) Our team is qualified to assess language disorders, speech disorders, voice disorders, cognitive disorders and swallowing disorders. Accordingly, an intervention plan is designed and tailored to fulfill the aims of each case individually. Throughout the therapy process, each beneficiary’s progress is monitored via weekly meetings with the rehabilitation team. Additionally, the speech and language department provides alternative aids for communication in severe cases (alternative and augmentative communication). It also provides training for parents, teachers and caregivers as needed.
The ST department also work in cooperation with the audiology department, offering post-cochlear implant rehabilitation services to beneficiaries who underwent cochlear implants and BAHA surgeries, in addition to their intervention with those with CVA, head injuries and swallowing disorders
